B&Bs & Guest Houses in Lyndhurst

The bed and breakfasts and guest houses in Lyndhurst we could confirm are open, inns that do B&B, and what to ask before you book.

Updated October 20265 min read

A B&B in Lyndhurst gets you a proper cooked breakfast, a host who knows which car parks fill first, and usually a quieter night than a High Street hotel. Most of the village’s bed and breakfasts and guest houses are a few minutes’ walk from the shops, on Romsey Road, Southampton Road or the residential closes off them.

A word of warning before you start searching. Older maps and guidebooks list a dozen or more B&Bs in Lyndhurst, many of them along Romsey Road. When we checked them in October 2026, a good number had closed or had no working website, so this page names only the places we could confirm were open.

Rosedale Bed and Breakfast

Bed and breakfast in a quiet road just south of the main car park, a few minutes' walk from the High Street and the Heritage Centre.

B&Bs and guest houses in Lyndhurst

Rosedale, Shaggs Meadow

Rosedale is a small B&B in Shaggs Meadow, a quiet close just south of the High Street, with two first-floor rooms, both en suite. The Rose Suite is a double or family room with a bath and shower and two pull-out beds for young children; the Dale Room has two singles that can be joined to make a super king. There is parking on site, so you can leave the car and walk into the village. With only two rooms, it is about as personal as a B&B gets.

Lyndhurst House, Romsey Road

Lyndhurst House, at 35 Romsey Road a few minutes’ walk north of the High Street, is a boutique bed and breakfast with five en-suite rooms. You can book room only or with breakfast included, which is handy if you plan to eat out in the village in the morning.

The Penny Farthing, Romsey Road

The Penny Farthing calls itself a hotel but runs very much like a large B&B: en-suite rooms in two joined Victorian houses, a full English included in the price, and a private car park. Rooms come in all shapes, including triples and bunk-bed rooms that suit families, and dogs are welcome.

Ormonde House, Southampton Road

Ormonde House is a traditional guest-house-style hotel on the main road in from the east, about five minutes’ walk from the High Street. With 19 rooms it is bigger than a typical B&B. It serves dinner too, which helps on a wet evening, and the rooms run from budget doubles to deluxe rooms with spa baths.

Pubs and inns that do bed and breakfast

Several local pubs let rooms, and for walkers they are often the best option, because supper is on site. In the village, the Stag and the Mailmans sit next door to each other on the High Street. A mile west, the New Forest Inn at Emery Down has a back gate onto the forest, and the Trusty Servant at Minstead has five en-suite rooms that take dogs. There is more on all of them on our hotels and inns page.

B&Bs a little further out

If Lyndhurst is full, widen the search to Brockenhurst, about four miles south, which also has a main-line station. Daisybank Cottage, on Sway Road in Brockenhurst, is a small boutique B&B and one of the places we were able to confirm was open. The Visit Hampshire B&B listings are the most up-to-date official list for the rest of the forest.

What to expect from a New Forest B&B

Breakfast is the main event. Expect a cooked breakfast, and tell your hosts about any dietary needs when you book rather than at the table. If you want an early start for a long walk, ask the night before; many hosts will put out something simple.

Small B&Bs are run by people who also have lives, so arrival times can be fixed, and they may not be in at three in the afternoon if you haven’t said you are coming then. Ring ahead with an arrival time. Some places ask for a minimum of two nights at summer weekends, and some take no dogs at all, so check before you book.

Parking is worth asking about too. On-street spaces near the High Street are scarce in summer, and the main public car park is pay and display. Our parking guide has the details.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is there off-street parking, and is it free?
  • What time can we arrive, and what if we are late?
  • Do you take dogs, in which rooms, and is there a charge?
  • Is there a minimum stay at weekends or over bank holidays?
  • Can you cater for vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free breakfasts?
  • What is the cancellation policy?

When everywhere seems full

On busy weekends, particularly in August and the week of the New Forest Show, small B&Bs can be booked months ahead. Try midweek dates first, then look at Ashurst and Cadnam as well as Brockenhurst, all within a short drive. For three nights or more, a holiday cottage can work out better value for a family, and in summer a bell tent at one of the campsites is another option: our camping and self-catering page covers both. Frequently asked questions

Are there B&Bs in Lyndhurst village itself?

Yes, though fewer than there used to be. Rosedale is in a close just off the High Street, Lyndhurst House is on Romsey Road, and the Penny Farthing and Ormonde House run on B&B lines on Romsey Road and Southampton Road.

Do any Lyndhurst B&Bs take dogs?

The Penny Farthing welcomes dogs, and so do the Trusty Servant at Minstead and the New Forest Inn at Emery Down. For more ideas, see our dog-friendly guide.

How far are the B&Bs from the High Street?

Most are within a five to ten minute walk. Romsey Road and Southampton Road both lead straight into the High Street, and Shaggs Meadow is just behind it.
