Hotels in Lyndhurst are mostly small and individual: one big hotel and a couple of pubs with rooms on the High Street, plus small family-run places on Romsey Road and Southampton Road. The big spa hotels sit just outside the village, out on the forest. We checked every hotel and inn on this page in October 2026, because a surprising number of the Lyndhurst hotels still shown on booking sites have closed or changed hands.

Prices change with the season, so we don’t quote them here. Book direct where you can, and ask about dogs, parking and road noise before you pay.

Details checked October 2026. Opening times change, so check with the business before you travel. Spotted a mistake? Let us know.

Hotels in Lyndhurst village

The Crown Manor House Hotel

The Crown is the big hotel at the church end of the High Street, about as central as you can get. Rooms range from snug doubles to four-posters, family rooms and the King Rufus Suite, and the Bar & Grill serves lunch, dinner and afternoon tea to non-residents too. It is a good choice if you want to park once and walk everywhere.

The Stag Hotel

The Stag, at 69 High Street, is a pub first, with eleven en-suite rooms named after places in the forest. Dogs are made welcome and the menu is pub classics. It sits on the busy part of the High Street, so light sleepers should ask for a quieter room.

Forest Lodge

Forest Lodge is on Pikes Hill, just off Romsey Road on the north side of the village and a few minutes’ walk from the High Street. It is part of the local New Forest Hotels group and has a heated indoor pool, which is a godsend with children on a wet day. Some of its Classic and Family rooms take dogs for a small charge, though dogs can’t go in the pool or the restaurant.

The White Rabbit

The White Rabbit on Romsey Road is a Chef & Brewer pub-restaurant with fifteen en-suite rooms. The name is a nod to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and the real Alice, Alice Liddell, is buried in the churchyard of St Michael’s (see our Alice Liddell page). Well-behaved dogs are allowed in parts of the pub and the garden.

The Penny Farthing Hotel

The Penny Farthing is a small hotel made from two Victorian houses on Romsey Road, on your left as you drive into the village from Cadnam. All rooms are en suite, from doubles to triples and rooms with bunk beds, and the price includes a full English breakfast. There is a private car park, which is worth a lot in Lyndhurst in August, and dogs are welcome. It also lets two three-bedroom cottages on a self-catering basis.

Ormonde House Hotel

Ormonde House faces Southampton Road on the eastern approach, about five minutes’ walk from the High Street. It has 19 rooms, from budget doubles to deluxe rooms with spa baths, and serves dinner as well as breakfast. The rooms at the front look onto the main road.

Hotels just outside Lyndhurst

Lime Wood

Lime Wood is a mile or so south-east of the village on the Beaulieu Road (the B3056), set back in the trees. It is the place people save up for: a country-house hotel with the Herb House spa and Hartnett Holder & Co, the Italian-leaning restaurant run by Angela Hartnett and Luke Holder. It also offers dog-friendly stays.

Woodlands

Woodlands Lodge, which now trades simply as Woodlands, is a privately owned country-house hotel on Bartley Road at Woodlands, between Ashurst and Bartley. It has 18 rooms in three acres of gardens with the forest on every side. Its restaurant is open to non-residents, and it is properly dog-friendly: several rooms take dogs, and dogs can join you for breakfast and dinner in the bar.

Bartley Lodge and the Beaulieu Hotel

Two more New Forest Hotels properties are a short drive away. Bartley Lodge is a Georgian manor in Cadnam, about three miles north, with an indoor pool and dog-friendly rooms. The Beaulieu Hotel stands on the open heath next to Beaulieu Road station, about three miles east, with an indoor pool and the Drift Inn pub next door.

Travelodge Stoney Cross

The Travelodge at Stoney Cross is on the A31 about three miles north-west of Lyndhurst. It is a budget roadside hotel rather than a forest retreat, but it is handy if you are passing through or want a cheap base for walking the north of the forest.

Inns with rooms near Lyndhurst

A pub with rooms is often the nicest way to stay in the forest: supper and bed under one roof, and nobody has to drive. Here are the best ones nearby.

  • The Mailmans, 71 High Street: a traditional pub next door to the Stag, with rooms of its own, if you would rather sleep in the middle of the village.
  • The New Forest Inn, Emery Down: about a mile west of the village, with rooms, dogs welcome in the bar and restaurant, and a back gate onto the forest.
  • The Trusty Servant, Minstead: five en-suite rooms by the village green, and dogs are welcome in the rooms as well as the bar. It is the obvious base for our Minstead and Rufus Stone walk.
  • The Bell Inn, Brook: a larger coaching inn about four miles north, with 26 dog-friendly bedrooms, beside Bramshaw Golf Club.

For eating out without staying the night, see our guides to pubs and restaurants.

Bigger hotels near Brockenhurst

If you want a full-service hotel with a spa or a children’s club, the choice is wider around Brockenhurst, about four miles south. Rhinefield House is a grand Victorian house on Rhinefield Road and welcomes dogs. New Park Manor, on the Lyndhurst Road just north of Brockenhurst, is built around families, with an indoor pool, a spa and childcare. Careys Manor and the Balmer Lawn are both spa hotels on the edge of Brockenhurst village.
