The Lyndhurst business directory is our free, hand-checked list of the places you are most likely to need in and around the village: cafés, pubs and restaurants, places to stay, shops, attractions, local services and visitor facilities such as car parks and toilets. It covers Lyndhurst itself and the forest hamlets close by, including Emery Down, Bank and Minstead, plus a few places a little further out that visitors ask us about.

Every listing is free, and we write each description ourselves. Search by name or browse by section below, and tap any listing for its address, contact details and directions.

What is in the Lyndhurst directory

The directory is split into six sections, each with smaller categories inside it, so you can go straight to what you need.

Section What you will find
Eat & Drink Cafés and tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and takeaways
Places to Stay Hotels and inns, B&Bs and guest houses, self-catering and campsites
Shops Gifts, antiques, clothing, food shops and other independents
Attractions & Activities Heritage sites, activities and places of worship
Local Services Health, beauty, money and post, motoring, pets and professional services
Visitor Facilities Car parks, public toilets, electric vehicle charging and visitor information

Our guides draw on the same listings. The eat and drink guide, where to stay and shopping in Lyndhurst put them in context with our own recommendations, and local services covers the practical side, from the GP surgery to the nearest fuel.

What each listing tells you

A listing gives you a short description written by us, the address and postcode, and a phone number and website where the business has them. Where we have confirmed it, we add useful features: whether dogs are welcome, whether there is step-free access or an accessible toilet, outdoor seating, vegetarian options, takeaway, free parking, room for a pushchair and Sunday opening. Each one has a directions link, and listings with a location also appear on our interactive map, so you can see what is near your car park or your walk.

Every listing also says when we last checked it. Opening times in a village like this change with the seasons, and a café that opens seven days a week in August may close on Mondays in November, so check with the business before you travel any distance.

How we check listings

We would rather list fewer places and have them right. Before a business goes in, we check that it is trading now, not just that it once was. That means looking at its own website and social media for recent activity, checking official sources such as the Food Standards Agency’s food hygiene register for cafés, pubs and restaurants, and Forestry England and the National Park Authority for car parks and campsites. Where sources disagree, we ask the business directly.

We write every description in our own words from what we have seen and checked. We don’t copy a business’s marketing, and we don’t make claims about a place that we can’t back up. If a business closes, changes hands or moves, we update or remove the listing as soon as we know, and we recheck listings through the year.

Some businesses on older maps and booking sites around Lyndhurst have closed, and others have changed their names. If we couldn’t confirm a place was open, we have left it out for now.

Listings are free

There is no charge to be listed. Businesses can’t pay to appear higher, to get a better description or to be mentioned in our guides. When we recommend somewhere in an article, it is because we think it is good.

Visit Lyndhurst is paid for by advertising, and adverts are always labelled and kept separate from the directory and our editorial pages. A business that advertises with us gets no special treatment in its listing.

How to get listed or correct a listing

If your business is in or near Lyndhurst and isn’t here, or your listing is wrong or out of date, use the form on our get listed page. You can add a new listing, correct an existing one or tell us that a business has closed. Visitors are welcome to use it too: if you find a café shut for good or a phone number that no longer works, we would like to know. For anything else, our contact page reaches the editor.

Where our data comes from

We build listings from our own checks and from official and open sources. Some listing data, such as locations and addresses, comes from OpenStreetMap: © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). OpenStreetMap is a free map of the world made by volunteers, and if you know Lyndhurst well, adding and correcting places there helps everyone, us included.

Frequently asked questions

Does it cost anything to be listed?

No. Listings in the Lyndhurst directory are free, and nobody can pay for a better position or description.

Can I leave a review?

We don’t publish reviews or star ratings. The directory sticks to facts you can check: where a place is, how to contact it and what it offers.

Why isn’t a business I know listed?

Either we haven’t reached it yet or we couldn’t confirm it was still trading. Tell us about it through the get listed form and we will check it.
